What is the ECOTE WSF MDF Primer?

This is an interior water-based single pack sealer, filler primer. Easily sanded, 1-2 coat, quick drying and a very good filling primer for porous coatings. The primer can be applied by brush or spray. This product provides excellent sealing/filling on high-quality MDF face and edges (in 2 coats), Plywood and other wood-based boards. Very high filling properties and excellent adhesion to vertical surfaces.

What paint can I use on my MDF board?

When deciding on which paint to use for your MDF board, recommend using AVKOTE LE (for a satin finish) or AVKOTE FL (for a matt finish).

Answering your questions about priming MDF and other wood substrates

What primer should I use on MDF?

We highly recommend using our ECOTE WSF MDF Primer, an interior water-based single pack sealer, filler primer. Easily sanded, 1-2 coat, quick drying and a very good filling primer for porous coatings. It can be applied by either spray or brush.

What paint can I use on my MDF board?

In terms of top coats for primed MDF we recommend the following:

AVKOTE LE for a satin finish.

AVKOTE FL for a matt finish.

Do I need to prime MDF?

Yes, it’s necessary to prime MDF before applying paint. 

We recommend using our ECOTE WSF Primer for MDF.

Can I use a water based primer on MDF?

Yes, you can absolutely use a water based primer and undercoat for MDF. 

Our ECOTE WSF Primer for MDF is 100% water based making it great as an MDF primer undercoat and eco-friendly.
